Feral Kitties Need our Help!

Action: Engage and Educate Neighbors

This is an idea that just now came to me when I received the email! I’m a 9th grade teacher in an IB world school. (This is an international educational program, which schools have to be accredited for). It is a low income, urban school with much poverty in the area. There are feral cats all over the area. Each year, the students are required to participate in a community service project in a category of their choosing. The teachers are the “sponsors” and select the project which students sign up for. (So the students who would sign up for my service project would actually be interested in the project and not FORCED to pick this one). I’m thinking we could likely post information and hand out brochures, not just to people in the school but in the local community as well. I could likely do some research and find low cost spay/neuter options for those who have outdoor cats (which is A LOT of people in this area), to encourage they spay/neuter their felines. I think this would be a great opportunity for the kids and also for me as an instructor to engage in a service project I truly believe and feel invested in! The event would not be able to take place on the 16th of October. This is actually when the IB program starts the planning and implementation of the service projects. Most service projects take place in the spring semester between late Feb and late April, so I cannot provide a specific date yet.
