Green Mountain Animal Defenders is Vermont’s largest volunteer-run, non-profit animal protection organization with members and supporters throughout the state and beyond. Since 1983, we have been tirelessly working to protect the well being of all animals, including feral cats which this project focuses on.
We are expanding our P.A.W.S. (Providing All-Weather Shelter) Project, which currently provides newly constructed doghouses for Vermont families who agree to fencing and no longer chain their dog. We are excited to be able to extend this initiative to feral cats!
Warm, dry shelters will be provided to established feral colonies that are being managed by an individual or a group. In order to qualify for a feral cat shelter, the cats must be spayed/neutered. GMAD will work with the feral caregivers in our communities by assessing the greatest need and delivering shelter(s). Our organization has pet food drives occurring all year long with a large number of the cat food going directly to ferals.
We need assistance with material and construction in order to optimize the number of ferals we can assist. We are using the prototype shelter provided by Alley Cat Allies.
We are excited to be discussing this new initiative on Vermont’s Channel 3 Everything Animals on October 14th at 6:50am EST in honor of National Feral Cats’ Day!
Please email PAWS@gmad.info if you can help!
