Did you know that since 2009, the “live release” rate for cats at our county animal services shelter has
increased from a sad 25 percent to now more than 90 percent? Did you know that 33 percent fewer cats
are taken to the county shelter now than four years ago?
These amazing results, which make shelter life better for dogs and cats alike, are only possible
because of our compassionate community. Another reason they are possible: the Gulf Shore Animal
League (GSAL), which coordinates most of Manatee County’s services for feral and free-roaming cats.
GSAL is the fearless leader of a countywide Feral Freedom program that focuses on the humane
practice of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Our TNR services are crucial to Manatee County’s historic effort
to become a “No-Kill” community; without GSAL, there is no chance at a “No-Kill” Manatee.
Our 1st Annual Pussycat Festival, coming Nov. 9, will help us raise urgently needed funds to continue and
expand our groundbreaking efforts on behalf of Manatee County’s pets. Our latest programs include a
